South East London has some of the highest poverty rates in the capital and people going without food is not unheard of.
There are people all over London who go without a warm meal at night and a nourishing breakfast in the morning. But there are things being done to combat this, organisations that want to help put an end to to the hunger in one of the richest cities on the planet.
The Norwood and Brixton Foodbank‘s aim is to not let anyone in the community go hungry. They give out a three-day, nutritionally balanced food supply to people in a crisis. They opened in 2011 and in 2015 they gave 6,365 meals to those who needed it – they are doing some amazing work within the community and it s the community that allows it to continue as they rely on the goodwill and support of their volunteers.
They are currently desperately short of stock and are in need of help from the community in order to continue helping those who need it.If you did want to donate they have a website where you can give financial help, or you can volunteer your time or food.
