London eye Lights up for Diwalli 2017

Last night people all around the world began to celebrate the festival of Diwali and for Londoners this was no different as the London eye was lit up for the Hindu festivial of light.

Diwali celebrates reflection, forgiveness knowledge and love over evil .With the theme of love winning over evil it was very fitting that Sunday nights light switch on was dedicated to the victims of recent terror attacks and those effected by the Grenfell fire.

As crowds gathered along London’s Southbank the Indian high commissioner YK Sinha pressed a button to switch on the lights. This completed a long day of celebrations that had been taking place in Trafalgar square with speakers including London Mayor Sadiq Khan and a whole range of cultural acts such as traditional dance groups and even yoga.

Twitter user @KaulLakshmi summed up the evenings events in a tweet “Proud to have attended the historic #LightUpLondon #DiwaliLights #LondonEye last night. From darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge”
