Guy’s St. Thomas’ do it again as more members of staff are awarded for their work
Geriatric Oncology Liaison Development (GOLD) team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust won a Macmillan professional excellence award in the ‘Innovation Excellence’ Category last week on the 8th November. The award recognises their work with older cancer patients in London.
The GOLD team aims to improve the overall medical health of patients aged 65 years and above before, during, or after their cancer treatment.
According to the Annual Report of the Director of Public Health 2016 statistical bulletin,
- Cardiovascular diseases and respiratory conditions accounted for about two thirds of all deaths in Southwark in 2015.
- There were 393 cancer deaths in Southwark in 2015.
- Cancer was the most common cause of death accounting for around a third of all deaths in Southwark.
This is good news for the city and the Trust as it was only June this year when both of two cancer trial teams won an award in the ‘Clinical Site of the Year’ category of the PharmaTimes International Clinical Researcher of the Year Awards 2018.
The GOLD team assessment unit is located at the ground floor of the Bermondsey wing at Guy’s Hospital.
