Disruption to one million students caused by university staff eight-day strike.

Row over pay and pensions cause staff at 60 universities to walk out. Leading to more than a million students facing disruption to their studies.

If agreements cannot be reached threats of industrial action thousands of staff at 60 universities have walked out in an argument over pay, conditions and pensions. Many staff members including lecturers, student support services staff, admissions tutors and various other staff are among those going on strike.
Its reported that Union leaders a strong show of support on Monday for the industrial action, which could lead to the strike continuing into the new year. One university in particular – The University and College Union (UCU) have shown a 15% gender pay gap and changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).

The shadow education secretary, Angela Rayner promised to “end the scandal of chancellors getting extortionate pay while people at the other end of the pay scale have to use food banks, which is absolutely disgusting and disgraceful”. [source: Guardian]
