New War Memorial Unmasked in Walworth

The new War Memorial placed in Walworth square was designed by Scottish artist Kenny Hunter, she created this peace to mark armistice hundredth anniversary and to also commemorate all those that had been affected by the war. It has been named: I’ll hold my human barrier, after a World War Two poem by Hamish Henderson.

The event included singing of a choir of Boucher Primark School and St John’s Primary children to aid Southwark’s Mayor Councillor Catherine Rose place the wreath as a symbol of remembrance.

The new war memorabilia was commissioned by Southwark Council with help from Lendlease and the Contemporary Arts Society.
