#MELTDOWN AT LONDON SOUTHBANK?

Burger King eliminates all plastic toys from their kids’ meals for their new initiative called the #meltdown.

A new statue with the name “Beep Beep” was put in place by Burger King along Southbank to raise awareness regarding the over production and consumption goods that are inefficient and disposable over durable ones (also known as the ‘throw-away’ mindset). This is due to two young girls, 9-year-old Ella and 7-year-old Caitlin, who created a petition that got over 500,000 signatures that went against the use of plastic toys that brought the well-needed awareness to get large transnational companies such as Burger King and McDonald’s to change their methods.

Burger King’s attempt to combat this has led to the removal of plastic toys from kids’ meal and to encourage recycling of previous ones by providing a free kids’ meal when you trade one in which they will then recycle

Two Polish tourists called Żaklina and Justyne agreed with the initiative and stated that Poland has the same views on the ‘throw-away’ culture and suggests that “wooden toys” should be used “instead of plastic ones” so they can be reused and recycled.

A branding agency known as JKR was also on the scene, taking photos of Beep Beep and shared their opinion. An agent known as Layla stated that it was a “good way to raise awareness and to have a dig at McDonald’s” who have refused to remove plastic toys from their Happy Meals and rather decided to have it be optional.
