A Short Interview with Liam Nenortas of Joke MFG.

Liam Nenortas is 21 years old from Phoenix, Arizona, and owns a clothing company called Joke MFG. Since starting the company a few years ago, Nenortas has been building Joke MFG. and designing pieces that are unique and different from what is normally seen. He is currently working on a new drop called Hellfire West.

How is it running a clothing company in Phoenix?

Running a clothing company is definitely difficult. The fact that Arizona doesn’t really have any fashion scene can really put a damper on a brand, but as other companies like Foulplay grow it shines the light on Arizona and lets people know that it’s not just a desert and cowboys.

What are you working on next?

Right now I’m working on my next drop, Hellfire West. I wanted to do something based on the history of Southwest, and cowboys and the wild west are what defined Arizona and other surrounding states. The big thing in underground fashion is the focus on war and destruction, and I wanted to stray away from that and create pieces that people wouldn’t normally wear.

How did it feel to be contacted by Juice WRLD, and how did you feel when you saw him wearing your shirt onstage?

Seeing Juice WRLD in my clothes really upped my confidence with my clothing. I finally realized that Joke MFG. could be something bigger than some small project that stays underground. The fact that a huge artist, who could practically afford any clothing he wanted, was interested in my clothing was an amazing feeling. It’s devastating that he was taken at such a young age and I hope he rests in peace. R.I.P. Juice.

What are your goals for the future?

My main goals are to progress the brand. I’ve always said that I don’t care for my own goals, but I just want the brand to grow. I don’t really affiliate myself with the brand on social media. I want it to grow and be its own entity. I could care less if people know that I’m the one who makes everything, I’d rather just see people in the clothes and be like, “yeah I made that” haha.
