An Air Cadet’s Experience

323 Air Training Corps Squadron, Epsom & Ewell.

From first aid to leadership skills, this amazing experience can help you grow mentally and physically in the healthiest and happiest way possible.

September 13th, 2018 – since that day I have never been exposed to so many new possibilities. Air cadets has changed me in so many ways starting off with my confidence. I was always the quiet person in the back of a classroom who never took any risks. So, joining cadets was quite nerve-racking, and since then it is safe to say that I have changed, and my confidence has gone up rapidly.

I would 100% recommend air cadets to anyone and, if not, there are so many other options like sea, army, and police cadets. Since joining cadets, I can do first aid, communicate through a walkie talkie, and I have taken part in two successful remembrance parades, learned how to shoot a rifle and now I am taking part in my bronze DofE Expedition. Sports is a big part of cadets, from cross country to swimming you must make sure you are healthy and staying fit. Cadets is also an effective way to leave all the stress and take your mind of things, leaving you with three hours in a lively environment with good friends.

If you plan on joining the RAF, then it would be best if you joined air cadets, you would be receiving spectacular opportunities like flying Vikings, gliders, Aquilla A112 and you will be learning from the most experienced pilots who generously give up their free time, as well as this, you can also attend amazing camps and meet new people with similar interests as you.

However, all these amazing opportunities come with discipline, such as making sure your uniform is above and beyond all expectations; from the shiniest shoes to well ironed shirts. Furthermore, with discipline also comes responsibility, you have to make sure you take things seriously, for example at cadets you may be headed towards your marksmanship badge and so, making sure you go home with no cap shells stuffed in your pockets is a huge and important responsibility.

Although this may seem like a huge commitment, this unique extra-curricular can be a fantastic addition to your cv. Moreover, the close friendships formed, and the beneficial life lessons will most definitely be an experience you will value for years to come.
