‘Atrocious’ Housing at LSBU

Dante Accommodation.

Students are shocked by the living conditions at Dante accommodation when they were ‘promised’ beforehand with ‘excellent’ rooms for adequate prices.

Students were guaranteed the utmost for their living conditions at the university accommodation only to be disappointed and frustrated with what they were given.

Some complained about not getting the rooms they wanted from the beginning and some about the ‘broken’ necessities given with the room.

“The toilet was lodged out of its place and the maintenance took a week or so to come up to our room to fix it.”

Ella; a first-year student residing at Dante accommodation said.

According to some students, they received a list before joining with what they would expect in their accommodation and when they got to the university; they were astonished to see how worse their living standards actually were.

“I was told my mattress would have a few stains and the reality was shocking when there were more than just a ‘few’ stains on it.”

Olivia; a first-year student residing at Dante accommodation.

Many students felt ‘deeply disgusted’ and ‘appalled’, some even went on to say that ‘it was not worth the money’. A few complained about ‘not getting their first or second choices’ and were left with questions as to why without anyone able to answer them.

One receptionist at Dante was asked ‘how many complaints they get’ to which they replied back with, ‘just a couple a year’. The vague answer was not enough to suffice the amount of issues that continued to get listed by students who resided there.

Some complaints consisted of, ‘mould’, ‘odd smells’, ‘mice problems’, and one student went on to recall how ‘a lightbulb had fallen on her head’.

Dante accommodation have proceeded to say that they are doing everything in their power to make sure that the students living there ‘are in the best of care’.
