Woolwich’s new creative district gets nearly £1 milion funding

Woolwich Creative District gets a funding of £984,000 from the government, for overriding the coronavirus delay and be able to open in Spring 2021.

The £31 milion project, located in the Royal Arsenal, needed to be the house for the theatre company Punchdrunk, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, dance company Protein and the Chineke! orchestra in the autumn 2020. But, Covid-19 attacked Woolwich Works as the whole world, and the finish of the works will be later.

Elian, a 33 years old man who lives close the project said a very interesting opinion about the £984,000 emergency grant: “It’s £1 milion, it’s a lot of money and they probably would been better somewhere else. But again, as we often say: It is what it is.”

Also, other organisations got funding too. It was:  Greenwich Dance (£182,920), Blackheath Halls (£76,043),  Greenwich Theatre (£245,000), Blackheath Conservatoire (£228,000), Emergency Exit Arts (£110,998), Greenwich and Docklands Festivals (£55,000), Up the Creek comedy club (£165,000). Greenwich-based MDM Props got £247,784.
