The seventh Riga’s International Film Festival is taking place from 15th to 25th of October this year

This year the seventh Riga’s International Film Festival is taking place for 10 days in both kind of events – online and in person events where the social distancing and safety of the visitors will be provided.

This year’s theme and motto for the festival is “Owning the unknown” which includes 129 films in 10 themes for 11 days. Visitors can expect internationally recognized films from international film festivals. Festival’s programme also includes masterpieces and brave viewpoints from Baltic sea region and northern countries. It also includes talented debut and long awaited cinema works from Latvia.

In the evening of 15th of October at the cinema “Splendid Palace” in the centre of Riga’s city the opening ceremony of the Riga IFF took place. In the accompaniment of two latvian musicians Arturs Liepins and Jekabs Nimanis original music work called “Where’s the truth?” was shown the oldest film that was filmed in the territory of Latvia’s country.

In the following days of the film festival the cinematic art lovers can indulge into the magical cinema world with the help of very old classics like Juraj Herz’s “The Cremator”. For the romantic lovers there’s very unusual love story in Christian Pecold’s “Undine” under the category “Found in Berlinale”. For the nostalgic ones there’s “Homeland” by lithuanian film director Tomass Vengris which takes place in Lithuania and the main role is played by well known actress Severija Janusauskaite who is known for her role in Germany’s neo-noir detective drama “Babel Berlin”.
