How COVID 19 is effecting university students Mental Health

Students that have just started university in September having to be locked in their accommodation rooms under lockdown restrictions. Many are left feeling isolated, unmotivated and stressed due to being in the same place for a period of time and not being able to socialise with others. Not being able to socialise can result to a sense of loneliness and feeling a sense of loss and confusion. Many Miss friends and family who are away from them.

It has also been difficult for abroad students who sometimes find themselves alone or helpless in foreign country’s. With that comes the financial and administrative problems regarding the continuation of their studies. This can put stress and under pressure on the students. Universities have done all they can to bring their students back from abroad, and many have also supported students financially.

Social distancing and the two metre rule has taken over many places around England and universities are no different to those rules. Students that live in university accommodation, physical distance might be difficult to respect or even impossible to do in some cases such as in ‘Ghent university’. Dormitories where social distancing was impossible to keep were closed for the safety of their dwellers. At ‘Kings College London’, the sport team has decided to offer free online classes for students.

Covid 19 is an ongoing problem that has changed our lives completely not just for us here in the UK but around the world which has led to many changes, as of university students can’t attend seminars or lectures which has resulted students to do online work which some don’t mind but some do but yet they have no choice. This is a temporary restriction as we follow what happens next with the covid 19 rules.
