Life in Isolation- Day 1

Having now spent over 24 hours in isolation, I can confirm, it is dreadful.

If you had told me when I was 15 that I could sit inside all day everyday playing xbox I would have been jumping for joy, but today its a very different story. I had my concerns about moving back to university, but like many students across the nation I did as was expected of me, and moved into halls.

Today marks two weeks of living here, so far I have spoken to one flat mate, but I am now isolating with two people I haven’t met, a pretty rotten situation to find myself in. As much as I grunt and moan however, I understand that this is the way it has to be, whilst I personally might not be affected directly if I caught corona virus, I could pass it on to someone with a weaker immune system, and cause them serious complications.

This post will be the first of a daily series of posts, as I attempt to describe what isolating is like for students, and also as a way to keep myself sane. My biggest concern at the moment is being unable to go outside and exercise. To tackle this I have set up a routine using resistance bands, so I can at least keep my muscles working, rather than being cooped up for 14 days straight.

Today hasn’t been all bad however, with the mighty Peterborough United securing a 2-0 victory over local rivals Northampton Town, a result dedicated to the late Tommy Robson. Football can be a great release, a time to forget about everything else going on, unforutnaltey it onlys lasts 90 minutes, and it doesn’t happen everyday.

It’s looking like it will be a long 14 days, with very little to do in this box room, but I am sure I can find plenty of TV series to keep myself occupied. I’m not too worried about anything just yet, just taking each day as it comes and waiting for further information from the respective people.

I can see why students have been struggling, I’ve had no face to face human contact in 24 hours and I’m living with people I don’t know. This is a very scary time for everybody, but I think more needs to be done to help the students living away from home.
