On Saturday April 15th, 2023, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK hosted a spectacular Big Iftar event with over 1,000 attendees, including 850 non-Muslim guests.
The iconic Baitul Futuh Mosque, which suffered a terrible blaze in 2015, opened its doors to the public for a second time this year during the blessed month of Ramadhan.
The £21m renovation of the mosque was funded entirely by donations from members of the Ahmadiyya community, whose motto is “Love for all, hatred for none.”
‘The Big Iftar’ event was a free event where you could Join the Muslim community in solidarity for this year’s month of Ramadhan. The event was open to everyone, whether you were religious or not.

Every year 3.4 million British Muslims partake in fasting in the holy month of Ramadan. 1.9 billion Muslims globally are celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
This event gave non-Muslims an opportunity to “come and learn more about what drives Muslims to readily fast and accept the teachings of Islam:
‘Why endure the hardship of going without food and drink?’
‘Why sacrifice valuable sleep by waking up in the middle of the night?’
‘Why must we give up our material comforts?’”
This Big Iftar celebration was a beacon for religious harmony and love for all.

Guests had the unique opportunity to participate in creating mesmerising calligraphy. It was a delightful moment to witness the fusion of art and spirituality through this beautiful form of expression.
The event showcased outstanding exhibitions on Islamic prophecies about the current global situation, offering insightful perspectives and fostering understanding among the diverse audience.
Guests were also given a tour of the newly renovated Baitul Futuh mosque – Western Europe’s largest mosque and a stunning addition to London’s skyline. It was a proud moment for the community to share this incredible architectural masterpiece with everyone.
There were warm messages of friendship received by Siobhain McDonagh, a member of parliament for Mitcham and Morden and Jeremy Hunt, the MP for Southwest Surrey, and Chancellor of the Exchequer. They spoke of the value of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in working as a force for good in serving local communities across the UK.
A Heartfelt speech was delivered, highlighting the sacrifices of 18,000 Ahmadis who selflessly donated their wealth for the mosque’s renovation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their generosity was truly inspiring.
The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK emphasised the essence of Ramadhan in mastering our inner selves and overcoming evil inclinations.
“Through fasting, we train ourselves to resist what is unlawful for the sake of God.”
