‘Pinnacle’ moment robbed as proms cancel and dresses remain unworn

COVID-19 restrictions cause havoc for Scott Parkins family of 5 who were rearing for their daughters ‘pinnacle’ prom experience. The local Upminster prom boutique refused to return the £600 dress, forcing Scotts partner to sell her daughters prom dress for half its price via Facebook.

February. Prom preparation season! In the upcoming months Scott Parkin and his family were preparing for months of dress trials, expenses, glitter and all things extra. But one thing this close-knit family, nor families around the world could prepare for was a global pandemic. After a £300 deposit had already been placed Scott tried to return his daughters prom dress, despite the circumstances the prom boutique’s Manager sent a letter stating Scott had 14 days to pay off the dress or else interest would apply. Scott felt the shopkeeper was ‘earning money out of an unprecedented situation’ as the shopkeeper threatened legal action. After a heated back and fourth Scotts family were forced to pay and are looking for a new home for their princess dress.

As a child, prom remains a special day young girls wish for to come sooner and sooner. They can dress up, sing and dance with their best friends and dream for the night to last forever. Although 2020s students are missing out on this experience there will be ‘plenty of other opportunities’ Scott tells his precious daughter and there will be further dreams to be fulfilled for the beautiful generation of women entering their 2020 academic year.
